Photos from Megan's Hemet send-off, February 28th

On the morning of February 28th, Megan arrived at the Hemet Library to find the lobby filled with friends and fans eagerly waiting for her to sign their books. [72dpi jpg]

Megan signs a book for a friend she met a few months ago at the Stater Bros grocery store where they both shop. [72dpi jpg]

Megan is flanked by her friends, Pat Sager (left) and Lori Eastman (right), both from the Hemet Literacy Project. [72dpi jpg] (Photo courtesy of Jim Pankey)

Megan's two closest friends, Jaki Markarian and Sue MacKenzie, had trouble letting Megan go off on her great Bike Ride Around America. They know, perhaps better than even Megan herself, how horrendous her brain injury and recovery have been, but Megan's indomitable spirit drives her on in spite of obstacles and danger. [72dpi jpg]

After a very successful and fun book signing at the Hemet Public Library, Megan Timothy mounted her touring bicycle and rode off heading out of town on the first leg of her Bike Ride Around America. [72dpi jpg]

Later in the evening of February, 28th, Megan was the guest of honor at a small "bon voyage" dinner hosted by her friend, Kathleen Lowndes (right) at the 29 Palms Inn in Twenty-nine Palms, CA. Kathleen's friend, Dusty, is on the left. [72dpi jpg]

The highlight of the farewell dinner at the 29 Palms Inn was a call from Dr. Frank Hsu, brain surgeon at Loma Linda Hospital, Loma Linda, CA. He brought Megan nearly to tears as he wished her well on this beginning of her mounumental bike journey around America. Megan's friend, Kathleen Lowndes, also a brain surgery patient of Dr. Hsu, had arranged both the dinner in Megan's honor and Dr. Hsu's well-timed phone call. [72dpi jpg]

And now, Fredericka The Chicken - Megan's traveling companion for her Bike Ride Around America

The Saga of Fredericka The Chicken - Illustrated for reprint [pdf]

Nancy Layton, Executive Editor of Crone House Pubishing, takes Fredericka The Chicken out of her traveling bag for Megan and the crowd to see. [72dpi jpg] (Photo courtesy of Jim Pankey)

Nancy Layton holds Fredericka The Chicken as Megan and Freddie's costume maker, Marilyn Moneysmith, laugh at the story of Freddie's life that Nancy is sharing with the crowd. The significance of The Chicken in Megan's story has to be read in Megan's book, Let Me Die Laughing!. Merely telling it doesn't have the same impact. [72dpi jpg]

During the farewell dinner at the 29 Palms Inn, later the evening of February 28th, Megan demonstrates how much she already cares for Freddie by hoisting The Chicken onto her shoulder for a good camera shot. [72dpi jpg]

Megan Timothy signs books at Barnes & Noble in the Chandler Fashion Mall on March 4th.

Megan spent a cold night camped at Catalina State Park north of Tucson, AZ.

[150dpi jpg]

Megan had fun wandering around old Tombstone, AZ, before heading south to Bisbee, AZ, for her signing there.
